Certincoat® Glass Container Coatings Business Provides Outstanding Product Stewardship to Customers
Arkema Inc.’s Certincoat® glass container coatings business has a history of providing high quality hot-end and cold-end coatings and equipment, as well as exceptional technical service, to the glass production industry. From our efficient equipment and on-site audits to our returnable cylinder fleet, the Certincoat® business strives to exceed the product stewardship expectations of our customers to assure a safe and sustainable process.
The Certincoat® business performs audits on a regular basis to ensure customers are using Certincoat® TC-100 in an efficient manner, as well as provide us the opportunity to train new employees. These audits focus on the hot-end coating process and examine health, safety, and environmental aspects of the process. Our goal is to be sure customers are using our products and equipment in an efficient and safe manner.
Over the past decade, the Certincoat® glass container coatings business has employed a fleet of returnable cylinders to minimize the impact on the environment and make the handling of our product and containers easier for customers. Certincoat® TC-100 can be distributed domestically in returnable cylinders, to which Arkema contributes toward the return freight. The Certincoat® business also provides a separate transfer pump panel with returnable cylinders to ensure the capture of product from these containers. They are then sent back to Arkema for reuse. This process bypasses any landfilling or recycling of steel drums, and minimizes the potential for any residual material being disposed of incorrectly.
Product stewardship is an integral part of Arkema’s Certincoat® glass container coatings business and the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® Code of Management Practices. It challenges companies to improve performance throughout a product's life cycle, from "cradle-to-grave." As part of this effort, Arkema surveys its customers to allow us to continually improve in this area.
Product stewardship makes health, safety and environmental protection a fundamental part of designing, manufacturing, marketing, distributing, using, recycling, and disposing of our products. Educating customers about the safety and health aspects of a product helps to carry our message well beyond our plant boundaries. Product stewardship is also a shared responsibility. Everyone involved with the product has a responsibility to address society's interest in a healthy environment and in products that can be used safely.
Our Certincoat® glass container coatings business is committed to making health, safety and environmental considerations a priority in planning for all existing and new products and processes. We strive to extend knowledge by conducting or supporting research on the health, safety, and environmental effects of our products, processes, and waste materials. We also take leadership roles in organizations such as the Organotin Environmental Programme (ORTEP) Association and actively participate in the Environmental Protection Agency’s High Production Volume (HPV) Challenge Program to generate full sets of toxicity screening data on our products.
