   OrgasolÒ powder: Texture and
             Resistance in Coil Coating

Coil coating is the continuous application of an organic coating on metal (most often aluminum or steel). Since the sheets are formed after the coil coating process, coil coaters are constantly looking for improvements in the scratch and abrasion resistance of the coating, its flexibility, and innovations in the final surface texture.

  coil

Coil coating is used for:

  • Building (exxterior cladding, partitioning, roofs, garage doors, frames)
  • Sun protection (roller shutters and venetian blinds)
  • Interiors and machines (shelves and panels, ceilings, air conditioners)
  • Domestic appliances (refrigerators, washing machines…)
  • Communications (computer housings, telecommunications, audio and video equipment)
  • Transport (car body panels, bus exterior panels, caravan cladding, and road signs).

Orgasol® powder imparts the coating with a soft and regular texture and an advantage in applications requiring a very high abrasion resistance, flexibility, and good adhesion. The addition of Orgasol® powder does not affect weatherability, so it is a good choice for cladding, roller shutters, and tile sheets for residential roofing and garage doors.

Moreover, the wide range of Orgasol® average particle size enables coating manufacturers to work with particles from 20 to 60 um depending on the coating thickness and other requirements.

Compared to competitive products that require a grinding step, the particle size distribution of OrgasolÒ powder is sharper and more accurately controlled by the manufacturing process.

To be convinced of Orgasol® performances, please check the comparison of Orgasol® and other common additives in terms of benefits for coatings.

Of particular interest to coatings manufacturers is the use of OrgasolÒ powder to improve the flexibility of a thermosetting polyester resin, especially when other paint additives may actually reduce coating flexibility. In such cases, ultrafine Orgasol® polyamide powders play the role of a thermoplastic toughening agent in the thermoset polyester matrix. This effect can be optimized by adjusting the Orgasol® particle size in the coating: the flexibility will be even more improved by smaller size particles.

In terms of processability, OrgasolÒ powder is easily dispersed in most of the formulation, especially in polyurethane and polyester formulations often used in coil coating.

Recommended grades: Orgasol® 2002 D NAT1 ,Orgasol® 2002 ES3 NAT 3, Orgasol® 2002 ES4 NAT 3, Orgasol® 2002 ES5 NAT3, Orgasol® 2002 ES6 NAT 3
