Active substances synthesis

DMSO is widely used as a reaction solvent for active substances synthesis and has shown advantages in numerous reactions including:

  • addition
  • esterification
  • alkylation
  • elimination
  • cyclisation
  • substitution
  • etherification

DMSO is rated by EMEA as a ICH class 3 solvent: "Solvents with low toxic potential" while NMP, DMF and DMAC are rated class 2: "Solvents to be limited".

Moreover, compared to other polar aprotic solvent, DMSO improves yielding, selectivity and kinetic.

DMSO has all the qualities required for a reaction solvent:

1 High flash point 2 High solubility of organic compounds and salts
3 Stable in temperature under basic and neutral conditions 4 Reactions are faster than with other polar aprotic solvents
5 Easily recyclable 6  Not labeled
